Launching in Newcastle Cathedral

The inaugural performance of Dire Straits by Candlelight was staged at Newcastle Cathedral. This was no random choice. Newcastle is the spiritual home of Dire Straits. It is where Mark Knopfler grew up and the city’s football club, Newcastle United, famously walks out to the song Local Hero. Launching the project here felt symbolic and significant.

A working cathedral is not a conventional concert venue. It brings unique restrictions and logistical considerations.
